July Newsletter
The July Tui Motu magazine is on its way to you. Thank you to our Dunedin volunteers who packed the issue on Friday and this morning.
We usually celebrate the packing and posting of a new issue with morning tea as that is when we have most volunteers in our office. This morning was no exception. We preceded our little feast with an anointing ritual of Jim Neilan, a long time volunteer and friend of Tui Motu. At the same time we remembered Fr Daniel O'Leary who, as you'll read in the magazine, has been diagnosed with cancer. Our prayer is with both men and all those of the Tui Motu community who are living with illness.
New Zealand Catholic Education Convention in Wellington
Tui Motu had a stand at the Convention and, as well as boosting our subscriptions, I met a host of inspiring teachers from our Catholic schools — and potential writers for Tui Motu!
Also, I met Cavaan Wild who first wrote for Tui Motu when he was in secondary school and is now finishing his conjoint degrees at Victoria University. Pauline, his mother, teaches in a Catholic College in New Plymouth and she brought him to meet me. We recognise many of our writers from a postage size photo, so it's amazing to see them in life.
Article by Tina Beattie
Tina Beattie sent a longer article than we published in this issue of Tui Motu magazine as she covered some of the same background to the encyclical as Anna Holmes, so we didn't print it twice. We have posted Tina's full article on our website — and it's a very good read.
Kaaren Mathias's Presentation
Around 40 people enjoyed Kaaren's presentation in Christchurch last month. We were fortunate to have her just before she took off to India again. We thank Cathy Harrison from the Tui Motu Board for organising the event.
A New Parish Seller
We have a new parish seller of Tui Motu magazine in Wellington. Thank you! This is good news for us!
Enjoy your reading!
