Tui Motu Volunteers
"Tui Motu" relies on the availability and generosity of volunteers for the production, distribution and sale of the magazine each month. That so many people give their time and expertise to the endeavour indicates how much they value the magazine.
Our Dunedin volunteers arrive twice a month to label the envelopes and pack the magazines ready for posting.
New Volunteer
Joan Rea began volunteering in September 2019. She came to take her husband Brian's place after he died. Her husband Brian had been a volunteer for many years before he grew ill and died 11 July 2019.
Volunteer's Circumstances Change
Kris Bennett, after volunteering for over a year, gained full time employment at the beginning of 2020 and so was no longer available to help at the usual times. She is still keen to volunteer, though, and we will work out a way for her to stay involved.

Death of Two Loved Volunteers
Two of our long time volunteers died during the year.
Brian Rea died on 11 July 2019. Brian had retired from volunteering at the end of 2018 after about 17 years of service as he had developed memory loss. He had a brain haemorrhage and died not long after. Brian had travelled the country with the first editor Michael Hill IC to promote Tui Motu magazine and fundraise. In latter years he had come regularly to pack the magazines.
Jim Neilan died on 19 January 2020. Jim retired from volunteering towards the end of 2018 when his illness from cancer made him too weak. He had supported and promoted Tui Motu magazine in many ways since its foundation as writer, photographer and volunteer. He died on 19 January 2020.
Both Brian and Jim were loved volunteers and we miss their lively company. We received many tributes to both men when our readers heard of their deaths.
Volunteer Accountant
Kevin Thompson continues to advise us, oversee the Company accounts and when the COVID-19 lockdown is lifted he will prepare the annual financial report.
Archives
Kathy Mayo continues to add magazine contents to the database each month. Kathy gives approximately 2-3 hours per month to this work.
Magazine Sellers in Parishes
Our parish sellers are the unsung heroes of the Tui Motu endeavour. They live at a distance from they Dunedin office and every month they receive a packet of magazines to sell in Church communities. Through their dedication and enthusiasm they contribute 94 subscriptions — a significant contribution.
