Day 14 from Leon to Villar de Mazarife

Ann Gilroy —

Dear Mum, family and friends,

Warm sunshine returned today for our easy walk from Leon to Villar de Mazarife where we're staying at the Refugio de Jesus. (It's quaint - Jesus might well have stayed here.)

Leaving Leon we passed by the grand convent of San Anton and toured the suburbs and industrial area before getting off the road onto a path. Most of the land, unused for farming, was dried out with only intermittent shrubs.

Then we came over a hill and were immersed in salmon-ochre tilled fields. We passed a field of dry sunflowers with birds having a party, a stretch of irrigated beans, and corn. The church bells were summoning the villagers of Villar De Mazarife to mass when we arrived. We'd already massed in Leon so opted for hot showers.

We're going to investigate the town shortly and as it's Sunday and it's a small town we'll look out for food.  Our albergue doesn't provide food and the one across the road has already sold out.

Love to you all. I am taking you with me on the way.
