Subscribers gather in Hamilton to meet Tui Motu Magazine Board
Most roads led to Hamilton for "local" Tui Motu subscribers on 6th November to meet the Board and to hear Mike Riddell's presentation and the editor's vision for the magazine.
The Tui Motu Board usually invites subscribers and friends to an evening at the place where they will hold their meetings. Their November meeting was scheduled for Hamilton and about 50 subscribers from afar as Katikati and Rotorua, participated in the evening.
Mike Riddell, the guest speaker, presented the idea of catholicity as being a wide embrace of differences mirroring the inclusiveness of God's love and mercy. He reminded the group that we can easily draw artificial boundaries, including some and marginalising others, which in no way represents the limitless mercy of God for humanity.
Ann Gilroy outlined her vision for Tui Motu magazine including inviting young writers to contribute, developing further the on-line presence and anticipating a new design for the magazine starting with the Christmas edition - the 200th issue.
Neil Darragh, the chair of the Board, facilitated ideas for the magazine from the group. Suggested themes for the future included an exploration of "mercy", the distribution of wealth in society, the experience of the immigrant church and topics on science and religion.
Some readers told of their experience of a Tui Motu book club, where members meet over coffee to discuss articles from the magazine and recommended the idea to others.
The hot topic of the magazine's promotion came up and Neil asked for willing subscribers to sell the magazine in their parishes and for all subscribers to interest their friends in reading the magazine.
