July Newsletter
Our volunteers packed the July magazine yesterday and our 250th issue is on its way. Keep reading below:
I was talking with Tui Motu founding editor Michael Hill when we were preparing this July issue and he was amazed that it was the 250th issue. He said when he and Francie Skelton began the magazine in September 1997 they hoped it would keep going for six months! He spent 12 years editing the magazine.
Blind Low Vision NZ Prepare Audio Version of Tui Motu
The audio production department of Blind Low Vision NZ, formerly the Blind Foundation, convert each issue of Tui Motu magazine into an audio file and send it to those who request it and are enrolled with them. We know of several who receive this service. If you would like to receive the audio version, or know of someone else, contact 09 3557317 or your local Blind Low Vision NZ contact.
Tui Motu Board Meeting
The Board is meeting on 3 July to discuss other ways to engage subscribers apart from face-to-face meetings. We will keep you informed about their plans. Thank you to those who sent ideas after the last newsletter.
Coming Postage Hike
We've been informed that New Zealand Post is increasing postage prices over the coming months. At the moment we do not know what that will mean for Tui Motu magazine but we are meeting with them later in the week.
We hope that by increasing our advertising in the magazine we will be able to offset the postage increase. If you have a business, or know of one, that would advertise in TM please let us know.
Two Months Added to Subscriptions
The June newsletter included the notice:
"In recognition that we were unable to send you a printed copy of the magazine during Lockdown and in gratitude for your encouragement we have added two months on to your subscription."
Thank you to all those who donated the two months back to Tui Motu — we were overcome by your generosity.
Used Stamps
Even with Lockdown and other restrictions (or maybe it was during Lockdown they were unearthed!) we have received several packages of used stamps for the projects in Timor Leste and Peru supported by Mary MacKillop Today. Thank you very much! At the moment we are holding them at our Tui Motu office and will send them to the Sydney auction when travel between our two countries starts again.
Do enjoy the reading in the 250th issue of Tui Motu magazine!
