Gratitude to a Long-Time Volunteer
Shirley Curran has volunteered at Tui Motu for around 22 years. Thank you dear Shirley!
Tui Motu magazine is into its 27th year of publication and for most of those years Shirley Curran has been a volunteer in Dunedin. She has arrived each month to label the envelopes and again to pack the magazines for the post. As well, Shirley has taken a lively part in other activities at Tui Motu. Now in her 90s Shirley is resting from volunteering — and we miss her!
Shirley began volunteering during the editorship of Michael Hill and Francie Skelton. We searched our archives and found the evidence.
She has continued with scarcely a break since. Once a year she went away on holiday and she brought back such good stories that it made up for our going without her presence. Now it's time for her to stay in bed longer on volunteering mornings and to rest in the confidence that her contribution to Tui Motu has been inestimable.
Dear Shirley,
We already miss your lively conversation, your wide interest in everything from music, politics, church, books and cricket. We're excusing you only from volunteering duties — not from parties.
Thank you for your loyalty, generous service and utter reliability. You were often the first to arrive on volunteering mornings and brought with you a warm breeze of encouragement. It is our delight to be able to tell you how much you mean to us while you're still with us!
Thank you! We love you.
