Map showing where Syrian refugees are going

Ann Gilroy —

Did you know that Lebanon, about the size of Otago, with 4.4 million people has over 1 million Syrian refugees living in tent cities within its borders?

These refugees have been forced from their country by the war which has been going on for 5 years and shows no sign of ending. The Syrian refugee families lived middle-class lives in Syria and are traumatised by the war and upheaval. They are now forced to live in tents without facilities, unable to work legally because the Lebanese Govt is scared they'll stay.

The New Zealand section of UNICEF is fundraising to give 2000 young people a secondary education. They will be young people in the poorest areas and situations whose parents agree to them studying. (Donations to unicef.org.nz/blueskies or Caritas will support this project.)

The map shows where in Europe refugees are travelling.
