Digital Face of Tui Motu InterIslands

Ann Gilroy —

The website www.tuimotu.org is the primary digital platform for the magazine. We regularly post articles, reviews and columns from the magazine as well as supplementary material. We organise book reviews, regular writers, etc. into  collections (“publications”). The website also stores and gives access to all back copies of the magazine.

As well as the website we use social media Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to promote the magazine. This gives us four digital platforms for publication.

As well as the monthly newsletter, which reaches around two-thirds of our subscribers, we ran two month-long campaigns during the year.

The first was Emmaus Thoughts, a daily thought and image sent out by email for a month after Easter — from 28 April to 31 May. The Thoughts are also cross-posted on Facebook and Twitter. 205 people subscribed to this list. The following is a sample of the feedback we received.

Thank you so much for these Emmaus thoughts. They’ve been my first thoughts daily for these past weeks — absolute gems, both thoughts and images! Anne Burke
Many thanks for an enriching month. Appreciate these thoughts. So often articles, books ... are written and left. This is a rich resource giving life. Philip Cody SM
Absolutely beautiful photo. Ron Bennett
Just a note to say how much I'm loving the Emmaus thought that graces my inbox every day. I'm so glad you signed me up. Thank you! Kristine Keane
Thank you so much for the trouble you went to put The Emmaus Thoughts together for us. I so appreciated the photo and brief thought for each of them. Tess Gilfedder

The second was Season of Creation sent out during the Season of Creation 1 September — 4 October 2019. A daily email containing a brief quote from a back issue of Tui Motu magazine accompanied by an image was distributed daily. 191 signed up for these emails 74 more than in 2018. They were also cross posted on our Facebook and Twitter accounts. The following is a sample of the feedback we received.

A GREAT BIG THANK YOU to whoever had the idea of SPRING CREATION through the 30 days. I loved the pictures, and the MOST apt and appropriate verse or thought each day. Well done to all at Tui MotuJohn Walls
Many thanks for the stunning photos depicting creation—I loved them. Blessings to you all. Lorraine Cronin
Thank you Ann and Team for the lovely photography and thoughts during the past month. Freda McGurk
Again – how beautiful. Sets me up for the day. Thanks to all involved with the wonderful ‘Creation’ pauses. Pat Hick

We did not offer the post Easter Emmaus Thoughts in 2020 as we went into lockdown before Easter but we offered a daily Lockdown Thought, a brief quote, a prayer and some humour. 352 people have signed up and we've heard that some send them on to others. 81 per cent of subscribers did so through our website. The Lockdown Thoughts are currently ongoing until the lockdown restrictions are removed.
