UHPS Cultural Week

Maria Han —

We are so excited to be holding Cultural Celebration Week, next week from Monday 17th to Friday 21st March! This special week is all about recognising and celebrating the rich cultural diversity within our school community.

Cultural Celebration Week

📅 Monday 17th March – Friday 21st March

It’s a chance for our learners to share, learn, and connect with each other—embracing the many different cultures that make our kura such a vibrant and inclusive place to be.

What’s Happening During the Week?

Throughout the week, our tamariki will be involved in activities that celebrate and explore different cultures. They will hear stories, learn songs, try out traditional games, and share their own cultural heritage with their classmates.

We will be setting up cultural displays in the awhina spaces (shared learning areas) outside each classroom. These spaces will become mini ‘museums’ where students can explore artifacts and items that represent cultures from around the world. If you have something from your culture—like clothing, instruments, crafts, photos, or other artifacts—we would love for you to share them! These items will be for display only (no touching), so we kindly ask that you don’t send anything fragile or valuable. Please label your items clearly with your child’s name and classroom so we can return them safely.

Whānau Involvement

We’d love to have our families involved in this special week! If you would like to come in and share a story, teach us a game, a dance, or how to count in your home language, we would absolutely love to welcome you into our classrooms. Please have a chat with your child’s teacher if you are keen to be part of this—it’s a wonderful opportunity for our tamariki to learn directly from our community.

Cultural Parade – Friday 21st March at 9:10am

We will finish the week with a Cultural Parade on Friday morning. All our tamariki will take part in a colourful parade on the school courts at 9:10am, carrying flags representing their country of origin or cultural identity—these will be made at school during the week. We encourage children to come dressed in their cultural or national dress if they would like to! Whānau are warmly invited to come along, watch the parade, and join in the celebration.

We are really looking forward to a fun and meaningful week of learning and celebrating together. Thank you for your support in making this a special experience for our children!
