Perceptual Motor Programme
PMP is a structured movement programme that helps children develop body awareness, coordination, balance, and spatial understanding through purposeful physical activities.
Last week we launched our very first Perceptual Motor Programme (PMP) session and what a fantastic start it was! PMP is a structured movement programme that helps children develop body awareness, coordination, balance, and spatial understanding through purposeful physical activities.
The children rotated through a range of engaging stations in small groups, ensuring that everyone had the opportunity to participate in each activity.
Our stations focused on developing key foundation skills including balance, midline crossing, eye tracking, spatial awareness, and memory. Through these movement experiences, children explored how their bodies move in space while building coordination and control.
PMP sessions also provided opportunities for students to demonstrate our UHPS values. Children showed Manaakitanga by encouraging and supporting one another, Whanaungatanga by working cooperatively in groups, and Hiranga by giving their best effort and persevering through challenges.
PMP supports the development of body awareness, confidence, concentration, and readiness for learning. Most importantly, the children had a wonderful time challenging themselves and celebrating each other’s success.
We aim to run PMP sessions weekly with our Year 1 classes and look forward to seeing the children's skills and confidence continue to grow.
