Teachers Only Day

Upper Harbour Primary School —

Our teachers engaged in professional learning related to the refreshed New Zealand Curriculum

The recent Teacher Only Day provided our teachers with dedicated time to understand, prepare and engage with changes across The New Zealand Curriculum refresh, the redesign of Te Marautanga o Aotearoa.

Our teachers spent time in the beautiful setting at the Arataki Visitor Centre in the Waitakere Ranges.

We worked with Josie Wall, the Education Lead for Te Kawerau ā Maki Trust to better understand some of the stories of the iwi, their tipuna and the place of the iwi in 2024.  We endeavour to continue this relationship with a view to partnering with Te Kawerau ā Maki trust in order to strengthen our schools capacity to deliver Te Reo, Matauranga and Tikanga Māori as part of our curriculum.

Want to know more? We'll be holding a whānau hui to share and discuss some of this work following our Matariki breakfast on Thursday, 24th June.

Our Learning Support Team also spent the day engaged in professional learning, upskilling in the use of Numicon, a mathematics resource for teaching using structured imagery and patterns.

Upper Harbour Primary School engages in purposeful professional learning to up-skill all of our staff. This is directly reflected in our Strategic Goal to 'Strengthen quality teaching and leading,' and in our 2023 achievement data

The school adopted a Structured Literacy Approach in 2023 and this has positioned us well to adapt to the requirements for all schools to use a structured literacy approach, and to teach an hour of reading, writing and maths a day.

Schools have been directed to undertake a final teacher only day between 21 October and 15 November. Upper Harbour Primary Schools Teacher Only Day will take place prior to Labour Weekend on Friday, 25th October.
