Wellbeing | Welcoming our youngest learners
For the past week our year one classes, Rooms 15 and 19, have been getting stuck into the routines here at Upper Harbour Primary School. The new entrant tamariki are doing amazing and are settling nicely into school life.
Both classes have been doing lots of learning around our school values, making good choices and how to be bucket fillers.
Room 19 talked about what “Bucket Filling” choices are and shared their ideas together for their writing. Room 15 read the story “Have You Filled a Bucket Today?” and completed a sorting activity to understand the difference between bucket filling and bucket dipping. They’ve all been amazing bucket fillers!
Before Waitangi Day, Room 15 did some learning around the history of Aotearoa’s significant day. They read the story “The Little Kiwi and the Treaty” and discussed what a treaty is.
After the Waitangi break, Room 15 did some activities to learn about Chinese New Year. The tamariki shared their own understanding and cultural traditions from home with their peers before they explored more about the celebration. They then finished off with some Year of the Snake craft and singing a Chinese New Year Song!
Room 19 have read a story of the “Great Race” to learn about the Chinese Zodiac and made their own snakes to celebrate the Year of the Blue Snake.
We are looking forward to welcoming all new whānau to our school at our pōwhiri next week.
