Year 13 German international student Lene Jansen has thoroughly enjoyed her start to Upper Hutt College. Here is her run down of the first month from her perspective.

The first week at UHC was amazing for me because I got to meet the other international students before starting into the “real school”.

We had some great activities such as a trip to Kaitoke and a game day with our buddies.

After the first week of orientation, I started into the school life, and it was amazing. I was included right away and found that many students were just as interested in my culture as I was in theirs.

It is week four now and it still is amazing. The subjects are fun and the teachers are great. If I have questions, they do their best to help me and so do the students. If you are open with the people here, they will be open with you.

Some of my absolute highlights so far have been watching my first ever rugby game (the Hurricanes) with the other internationals, my music lessons, the melody I wrote for Drama class and the great friends I’ve made along the way.

I can’t wait to see what comes next.
