Hammering Away in Building and Construction

UHC Admin —

Building and Construction, a brand new course, has been delivering some standout products and setting interested students up with a pathway in the construction industry.

The Level 3 BCO students have been working on building a Tiny Cabin throughout most of this year. The main students working on this are Max Grey, Noah Garwood, Fletcher Harding and James Cheesman.

This cabin will be near completion within the next 2 weeks and can be seen at the back of the Woodwork Room on Moonshine Road.

Meanwhile, the Level 2 BCO students have had two projects this year. One being a saw stool and the other a Cape Cod Chair. Pictured here are chairs made by Lil Cosslett and Tray Gilmore.

At the same time, the Level 1 BCO students have been working on creating two projects throughout the year. One being a piece of furniture and the other a box. Both projects need to have three different wood joints.

Overall the credits for this course go towards BCITO qualifications. This will enable the students to enter the building trades or apprentice type courses.

BCO teacher Mikel Browne says he extremely proud of the effort that the students have put in, particularly in wake of Covid19 where students were unable to work on any of the products.
