Geographers Have A Grape Time In Martinborough

UHC Admin —

Year 11 Geography classes took a trip over the Remutakas to Martinborough for their upcoming NCEA assessment, which focused on how the environment in Martinborough is ideal for the growth of grapes, and the significance of this to the small town. Student Phoenix Crawley reflects on the experience.

We were investigating the importance of viticulture in Martinborough and got to experience this in person to help us with our NCEA Level 1 internal assessment.

While in Martinborough, we were able to walk around the town square, see around 23 of the vineyards scattered around Martinborough, and even speak to one of the popular business owners of the town, who is benefitting from the tourism brought in by the viticulture.

After getting a firsthand experience of the town, and seeing the impact that grape growth had on the town, we were able to understand its significance to Martinborough.

Thanks to Ms Thomson, Mr Keegan and Mr Laurenson for their insightful glimpses towards the culture in Martinborough.
