Message from the Principal

Judith Taylor —

Kia ora, e te whānau

As a remarkable school year draws to a close, we become more focussed on our senior students. Our Senior Prizegiving saw a welcome return to Lane Park where we could fully celebrate the academic and sport achievements of our seniors, as well as recognising their leadership and service to the school. Congratulations to our Dux, Ian Palmones, and our Proxime Accessit, Emma Bassett. We were privileged to present the inaugural Jackie Awa Mana Ōrite Award for Māori Academic of the Year to Lennox Amyes. The other highlight of the evening was the announcement of our Head Students for 2023, Lily Candy and JP Opperman.

Earlier in the term, our Sports and Cultural Prizegiving featured former UHC student and original member of Upper Hutt Posse, Bennett Pomana as guest speaker. Oliana Tia received the Colin McConie Cup for Sportsperson of the Year, and Mei Von Keisenberg received the Cindy Ritossa Memorial Trophy for Outstanding Contribution to the Performing Arts.

The rest of the year is a flurry of key events – two days of teacher professional development, a paid union meeting, Leaver’s Dinner, and Junior Activity Day before we finish on Friday 9 December. Please check the Important Dates so nothing is missed.

In our next and last Newsletter for the year, I look forward to sharing some of our plans for 2023.

Ngā mihi nui
