In the annual Upper Hutt College chess competition, queens were toppled, knights put to the sword and plenty of pawns decimated.

The competition attracted 24 enthusiastic competitors who were dedicated to out strategizing their opponents over seven lunchtimes. In the end though the winner was Year 10 student Riley Wilson, while Year 9 student Edison Yang was second with Year 10 Yiduo Qian third.

Librarian Mrs Bloomfield wants to congratulate all participants for a well thought contest.
