Message from the Principal

Judith Taylor —

Kia ora e te whānau. Once again our Pānui is full of the wonderful events, activities and achievements of our students over the last few weeks.

Involvement in activities, whether they are part of our rich learning curriculum, or part of the extra-curricular life of the school strengthens connections and engagement with school and provides ample opportunities to simply have fun - as seen in the pic above.

We’ve welcomed some new staff members to the school this term:

Lilac Ngwenya, Science teacher

Bridget O’Shanassy – Itinerant Music Teacher

Emma Burston – Teacher Aide in Awhina

Bessie Manu – Teacher Aide

Kat Soper – Teacher Aide

Chrissy Yuile-Vandenbeld – Teacher Aide

Haley Charles, Assistant Principal – stepping up from HOD Health

We also farewelled Kath Barr, Assistant Principal, who has left to take up a position at Scots College in Wellington. Kath, who had been at UHC for 21 years, was involved in all aspects of school life. An ex-HOD English and Dean, Kath has more recently been a key person in Year 9 as the Head of that year group. She has always been keen to ensure that students enjoy and have fun at school, and she has been part of House events, junior leadership, Teddy Bear’s Picnic and Running Club to name just a few – even having a go at Tough Gal! Kath will be missed for her exuberance, passion and positive approach to everything, and we wish her all the best on this next step of her career.

As we head into winter, a reminder about our uniform - please check the Uniform Information on the school website. We are now permitting students to wear a plain, black rain jacket (with minimal branding/logos), but the rest of the uniform remains the same.
