Key Information for Term 2

UHC Admin —

Please take time to read over these key pieces of information for Term 2 and complete the survey about shortened lunchtimes.

Ako Time - first day

We will begin the first day back with an Ako Time so that Year 9 students can be issued new timetables with their new Term 2 Options, (which happen to be Period 1 and 2 on Monday).  Year 9 Options run for one term, except for Languages which run for two terms.

Late starts

Late starts for teacher professional development on Friday mornings will resume at some point during Term 2, once the school has settled into normal routines.  All parents will be emailed the exact date these will happen.  Given the disruptions of rolling year groups home because of Covid impacts, we chose not to begin these in Term One.

Scooters & Skateboards

Students will not be permitted to bring these to school during Term 2 - the winter term as a health and safety issue.

Uniform

With cooler weather coming, it is important to remind whanau about uniform requirements.

Information on the school uniform can be found on the school website here and we are currently discussing further changes and additions to the uniform. In the meantime, we remind you that:

- The UHC school shorts are now available in a darker grey colour and may be worn by all students at school. The shorts are worn with the blue polo shirt.

- Senior girls may wear the approved UHC black trousers (only available from NZ Uniforms) at any time of the year.

- Sneakers, boots, backless sandals are not permitted – only approved black leather school shoes.

- The approved uniform jacket is the UHC navy jacket. Other coloured jackets, including puffer jackets, are not permitted.

- We have listened to students and whanau who have asked for a non-wool top to wear as an alternative to the UHC school jersey and the UHC school sweatshirt (in the darker navy colour) is a very popular option now. The UHC sports hoodie is NOT part of the regular school uniform and is to be worn only for sports training.

All uniform items are available at NZ Uniforms in Lower Hutt. We have a range of jerseys available and will loan one to students where required.

Thanks for your support in ensuring our students look great in the correct UHC uniform. If you have any queries about uniform (eg whether you’re buying the correct shoes or black trousers, or having trouble getting items of uniform) please contact the appropriate Dean.

Last year some changes were made to our uniform, including:

- a long sleeve white UHC shirt is now available for senior girls

- a black ie faitanga can now be worn, with the appropriate footwear (black leather shoes and black socks, or correct sandals) and senior shirt and tie.

** As we move into Term 2, we are aware that mask-wearing has hidden a number of things that would normally be visible and not OK. Please familiarise yourselves with our requirements around facial hair for boys, piercings and makeup.
