Extra-ordinary Sportspeople Acknowledged

UHC Admin —

After a disrupted year on the sports fields and courts, Upper Hutt College celebrated the many successes our students earned at the Sports Prizegiving.

Congratulations to all award winners including Arthur Pilcher who received the Colin McConie Cup for Sportsperson of the Year.

The audience, most of whom watched the Prizegiving online, were also given the opportunity to listen to guest speaker Mr Rangimarie Mita, who gave a very enjoyable and inspirational address to the students.

As a young man originally from St Pats Silverstream, he went on to play for the Wellington Saints in the 2021 New Zealand Basketball League.  He also shared some of his insights into not just being a professional basketball player but also a social media content designer, and youth mentor for the Hutt Valley region. His messaging as he shared his story was to focus on positive mental health and wellbeing.

His key phrase that his father had installed in him was that the difference between being extraordinary and ordinary, is that you have to put in the "extra" to get there.

Congratulations to all the winners, and in particular the major award winners who are listed below:
