Year 9s assist at Birchville School

UHC Admin —

Late in Term 3, Year 9 students Lucinda Kitching, Dannika Watt, Noah Te Ariki Curtis and Campbell Rawiri travelled to Birchville School to work with the Piki Te Mauri Group, and participate in a workshop with the Year 5 and 6 students about the importance of attending school and what college life was like.

“Before the workshop, we, along with students from Heretaunga College, helped organise and cook a sausage sizzle for all the Birchville students, and then congregated on the court to welcome the Minister of Education, but sadly she was unwell and could not attend.

We had some amazing interactions with some of the Birchville students while doing different activities like Basketball, Flag Rugby, free play and colouring. These interactions brought back some good memories from when we were at primary school, it was really exciting.”

“Then, we moved onto the workshops!

We ran three different workshops, that the students rotated around. They were all about the importance of attending school and what happens if you do not attend school, what to expect when you come to college and how to manage college life. It was very enjoyable sharing our experiences with the students, and it was lovely hearing about their experiences as well. Overall, it was a very enjoyable trip, and I would definitely do it again!”
