Successful 2022 NCEA results

UHC Admin —

Year 11 and Year 12 are key achievement levels for our students, and we continue to be the best performing co-ed school in the Hutt Valley at these levels, both in terms of the actual pass rates, and how we fare in our Decile level.

However, the 2022 NCEA results show the impact of COVID has caught up with all schools, including UHC. 3 years of lockdowns, student and teacher absences from school, sickness and the societal impacts have led to the dip in our results, and not unexpectedly or unusually – the national results are consistently below what they were in 2021 in all markers.

The following are our key results.

Year 11 - NCEA Level 1

UHC Pass rate – 83% (90% in 2021).

National average – 64% (69% in 2021)

91% of students gained Literacy (95% in 2021) compared to a national average of 82%

86% of students gained Numeracy (94% in 2021) compared to a national average of 81%

  • The pass rate of 83% places UHC in the top 4 co-ed schools in the Wellington area. The other three schools are Decile 8 or 9 schools. UHC is Decile 6.

Year 12 - NCEA Level 2

UHC Pass rate – 81% (85% in 2021)

National average – 74% (78 in 2021)

  • This pass rate places UHC in the top 5 co-ed schools in the Wellington area and again, the other schools are Decile 8 or 9 schools

Year 13 - NCEA Level 3

UHC Pass rate – 65% (76% in 2021)

National average – 68% (71% in 2021)

Maori & Pasifika learners at NCEA Level 1

At NCEA Level 1, 70% of our Maori students gained this qualification, down from 78% last year. The national average was 53%.

93% of our Pasifika students gained NCEA Level 1, an increase from 79% in 2021. The national average was 55%.

  • Our Maori and Pasifika students’ results are well above national and decile level figures, and a lot of support is in place to assist students during the year.
