Library Hosts Music, Anime & Chess

UHC Admin —

Term 2 has proved to be a very busy time for the Upper Hutt College library with a range of diverse and riveting events. Year 13 student Narisse Cox reflects on the events!

We kicked off the term in May with Music Month! During this time, an open mic was available to all students during lunchtimes outside the library - a big thank you to everyone who came along to participate and support their peers!

June followed this with our first ever Anime Week. Many activities were held in the library during this week, including a genre debate and a Bento Box display by a number of the Food and Nutrition students.

Anime Week also saw a Book Character day; students were able to come to school in casual clothing and were encouraged to dress up as book characters in celebration of the week.

After Anime Week, the annual UHC Chess Competition began. Students of all years were able to sign up to face each other in chess games to find this year's Upper Hutt College Chess Champion. Congratulations to everyone who played, and especially to our winner Jacques Venter.  Final positions were:

  • 1st Jacques Venter
  • 2nd Anjola Sigbeku
  • 3rd Yiduo Qian
  • 4th Riley Wilson
