Year 12 students given the keys to safer driving

UHC Admin —

Over 70 Year 12 students spent a day learning about what it means to be safe on New Zealand roads. The RYDA safer driving course was well received by students.

Attending a course with presenters from around Aotearoa New Zealand, the course took students through a range of different workshops, each with a different focus.

The workshops centred round the concepts of:

  • Speed & Stopping
  • Crash Investigators
  • The I in Drive
  • Mind Matters
  • Drive S.O.S
  • Road Choices

The course was held at Lane Park Church and even had a series of demonstrations that showed how long it takes a car to stop at a variety of speeds.  The crash test dummy had a tough day as the pedestrian demonstrator.

Instructors were well impressed by the level of engagement, questions, and response to each instructors' course.

Upper Hutt College will be looking to attend this course again in 2024 for Year 12 students.
