Year 9 Prizegiving

UHC Admin —

Year 9 students were recognised for their academic achievements, sports efforts, and leadership at the Year 9 Prizegiving, held on the last day of the term.

The college hall was packed with the large number of parents, caregivers and whānau who attended the Prizegiving. We all enjoyed one of the highlights of the morning, the performance of the Year 9 Percussion Group - Lucas Warenczuk and Henry Pritchard Glen, accompanied by their tutor, Maurice Phillips.

The major award of the morning was The Sir Edmund Hillary Cup, awarded to a Year 9 student for their classroom achievement and their commitment to the core values of Upper Hutt College. This year, it was awarded to Vetri Senthilkumar, but as Vetri was unable to attend, his good friend Ko Than received the award on his behalf.

Vetri has been a role model in and out of the classroom. He has volunteered to help with Committees and events, has taken on both leadership and service roles in the Year 9 cohort and also joined the Head Students and senior leadership as an ambassador at our contributing intermediate schools to share with them why UHC is the place to be.

House Cups for All Round Excellence went to:

  • Te Kanawa House - Joel Meijer
  • Jackson House - Jess Frew
  • Hillary House Cup - Henry Pritchard Glen
  • Blake House Cup - Mia Montgomery and Junior Vavaloa (pictured above)
