The Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce and Sapphire Consultants Pukana Internships, recently held a Hutt Valley Job Fair at the Brewtown Greenspace in Upper Hutt. Careers Advisor Kerry Weston tells us about the successful event.

This was not a generic careers event like a Careers Expo, but an opportunity for senior students who are looking for employment/apprenticeship opportunities, to connect with local businesses who are seeking to employ and train young people. 

There were around 50 local businesses represented at the event.

Over 50 senior students from UHC attended, with most travelling on a bus provided by the event organisers and some making their own way to the event, a few with whanau. It was really valuable for our students to see the range of businesses and employment opportunities available around the Hutt Valley.

Several students spoken to after the event were very positive about the experience, with quite a few signing up for either full time or part time work opportunities, including jobs for the summer.
