Art Factory Produces Purrfect Murals

UHC Admin —

Helping local organisation, Upper Hutt Animal Rescue, UHC Art Factory students have created some stunning murals to be displayed at the entrance of the business. Student Grace Seamark reports.

Art Factory, is an extra curricular programme run by Ms Clark that creates murals for our community. This year, our school was approached by Sharon from Upper Hutt Animal Rescue in Upper Hutt who had received a grant from the Upper Hutt City Council to commission students to create four different murals to go on display at the entrance of the cattery buildings.

Students started designing the murals for the animal rescue at the beginning of term three. With so many wonderful creations it was hard to decide on four. The four chosen unique designs were created by Flora Tang, Coco Zhou, Kali Bishop and Eden Ingerson but many others also contributed too.

We were all involved in the painting of the designs on wood sheets each measuring 2.5m x 1.5m. Throughout term three and four during lunchtimes and after school, we saw the murals go from four blank pieces of plywood to four unforgettable murals, below you can see the final products.

Teacher Ms Clark was very happy with the effort and the result of the students. “It is always an enjoyable experience for students to collaborate in a creative project that will ultimately benefit the community they live in. This project is a great example of our school value of manaakitanga”
