Upper Valley Music Festival hits the right notes

UHC Admin —

For the first time since 2019, the four schools in the Upper Hutt Valley region combined to deliver a musical showcase for the ages.

This was hosted by Hutt International Boys School and featured their music groups alongside students from Upper Hutt College, Heretaunga College and St Patrick’s College Silverstream.

The evening showcased a variety of different musical groups, with a combined mass rendition of Rob Ruha’s ‘That’s Where I’ll Be’ to end the night on a unified front.

This kaupapa was a great opportunity for our UHC students to build confidence performing in front of large crowds in an authentic context.

Our Barbershop Chorus opened the evening with a soft ballad ‘Heart of my Heart’, followed by our Year 10 Music band (Nathan Tagura, Eli Garcia, Hupdelina Eng, Havannah Rapana, Geseca Sapkota & Masungu Lenati) who performed ‘Ehu Girl’.

Our Music 101 Jazz band then played ‘A Girl from Ipanema’ before our amazing exchange student, Lene Jansen from Germany, sang a solo rendition of ‘Hell’s Coming with Me’. Finally, a group of Music101 soulful singers featuring Mekhi-Jackson Faulkner Tiatia, Jonathan Palu, Te Omeka Sua, Brandon Leung Wai, Jaze Lea’ana and John Sale, sang their sweet cover of John Legend’s ‘It Don’t Have to Change’.

Overall this proved to be a successful evening enjoyed by all students and families.
