Awhina students rebound to enjoy success

UHC Admin —

UHC Awhina students have been taking to the basketball court at Walter Nash Stadium in Taita to compete against other athletes with disabilities. Student Maria Andrews and teacher Ms Taylor report.

During the grading game we played Naenae College and lost and then we drew with Rongotai so we got into the Champions League. The second game we played Naenae again, losing 61 to 30. In the third game we played Wainuiomata High School and they whipped us 45 to 2 because they were way faster and some of our players were away. Then Heretaunga College beat us 39 to 2. They were great sportspeople and let Luke score our point.

We had an amazing turnaround in the finals and beat Naenae 44 to 34. These photos show our usual star shooter Alex back in form and Marty, Mav and Tino scoring, and Ross getting down and out of a tight spot. We passed to each other, caught the ball well, and got the hang of grabbing the rebounds.

We had a lot of fun playing basketball this year and everyone was happy.
