Sporting Success To Finish Summer

UHC Admin —

Upper Hutt College's Sports Activator, Chris Campbell, gives us the run through of how summer sport finished up at UHC.

Summer sport has drawn to a close and we are now at full speed, gearing up for the winter codes. Here is a quick snapshot of some of our summer highlights. Well done to all of our students who represented the college this summer and a huge thanks to all of the parents and caregivers for your continued support.

Cricket

Junior Boys

The junior boys cricket team had a great season in the Wellington Intermediate grade finishing third. This is a great achievement considering the strength of the division. With the exceptional coaching and management in place this team is well placed to make the jump up to Premier Cricket in term 4.

Senior Boys T20

Term 1 came to a close for the Senior Cricket side playing in the Hutt Valley Senior T20 Competition. Their 3 /5 record was better than it reads with one game going down to the last couple of balls and being competitive in two other close games.

Experienced and new players alike all improved their skills during the season and look forward to continuing with their development ahead of Term 4. A particular mention to Sam Kirkcaldie who, in captaining the side, really applied himself and led from the front in scoring two half centuries.

A special thanks also to Richie Player and Hamish Kirkcaldie for their assistance with umpiring and other parents for their encouragement of the boys through the term.

Lawn Bowls

During Term 1 the Upper Hutt College bowls teams competed in the College Sport Wellington bowls competition. The games were held at Silverstream Bowls Club and involved learning the rules of bowls and playing schools throughout Hutt Valley. Many of our bowlers were playing for the first time and all did exceptionally well.

Futsal

Futsal continues to be a very popular sport at UHC with 10 teams participating from our school. This is a huge achievement and is only possible with the help of parents and caregivers offering their time to manage the teams. Your help is very much appreciated, without your help, having that many students engaged in sport is not possible.

A highlight of the futsal calendar was our Senior Boys team who competed at the New Zealand Secondary School Nationals. The highlights of the tournament were big wins over Rolleston College 8-1, Rotorua Boys 5-3, and Wellington High School 11-3. A special mention has to go to Angus Prinsloo who won the Golden Boot of the entire competition scoring 16 goals across the 3 days.

Equestrian

Our equestrian girls had a successful day at the Kapiti College Inter School Champs in March. This event was both show jumping and cross country. All of our riders were individually placed.

  • Emma-Jayne McLennan on Luka - placed 4th in the senior 65cm.
  • Lillie Hilton on Ollie - placed 4th in the senior 80cm.
  • Emily Ingerson on Topaz - placed 3rd in the senior 80cm.
