Yummy Yellow Baking
Cheesecake, cookies, Minion cakes, lemon meringue pie and cupcakes. The library was full of treats, all decorated in yellow for the Baking Competition held during Cancer Awareness Week. Student Miya Abbott-Tutaki reports.
Students brought in baking that they had done the night before, and lined them up in the library. We all looked in awe at what everyone else had made, and were impressed with the skill that went into some of them, especially all the carefully iced cakes.
Ms Taylor came in at interval to judge the baking, doing it purely off looks. It was hard to choose between them, so she gave out highly commended awards as well as the placings.
Raedyn Coutts was awarded1st Place with Best Cake, which was decorated all in yellow, even with cake pop daffodils.
2nd Place was Jane Young, who got the Best Cupcakes, and they were iced intricately to make beautiful flowers. 3rd place went to Leonidas Martin, who got Best ‘Other’ for his Minion Cake.
Highly Commended Awards went to Scarlett Cowley, Katie Lewis, Miya Abbott-Tutaki, Tayla Hill, and Haylee Philip and Amy Scott.
At lunchtime, those given placings and highly commended were awarded with certificates and prizes. And then, all those who had baked something were able to try all of the other baking. It was absolutely delicious, and a great way to get together and celebrate such an important week on the school calendar.
Thanks to everyone who got involved!
