STEMM Students Put To The Test

UHC Admin —

A team of UHC juniors had their brains put to the test at the Hutt City STEMM challenge in Lower Hutt as they completed challenges and answered quickfire questions.

Students learned how to apply logic to problem solving during the rounds of ten questions and competed in teams of four competed in five rounds - science, technology, a practical task, engineering, and mathematics.

Each round was out of ten points, with some challenging questions asked. While we didn't place, students had a great time and learned some new things.

As well answering questions, students also were given practical estimation tasks through timing a minute without a watch, estimating a metre and volumes of sugar and water.

Questions ranged from "if there are 128 players, how many rounds of matches to win the tennis tournament" to "what is the name of the New Zealand space company founded by Peter Beck", testing a broad range of curriculum and general knowledge in the areas tested.
