Former Senior Mistress Audrey Harper passes
Former Senior Mistress, Audrey Harper, has passed away peacefully on March 7th aged 99.
Miss Harper, was in her role at Upper Hutt College for 20 years from 1962-1981.
As a foundation staff member, Miss Harper was appointed to her role to be responsible for female teachers and girls in the school.
In the 40th anniversary publication (2002) Miss Harper said the changes in education and the administration of the school over the last 40 years had been extraordinarily fast and striking.
She also recalled the first day of the college in February 1962 where 131 students, 6 staff and some parents gathered in the courtyard between the workshops.
"In forty years since the College opened there have been many changes but in that time Upper Hutt College has made itself an important part of the community and many of its students have brought credit and honour to its name".
Each year a senior UHC student is named the winner of the Audrey Harper Cup for service to the school. The current holder of the Cup is former Head Girl, Lily Candy.
Upper Hutt College send our condolences to the Harper family.
