ADV201 students take on the Orongorongos

UHC Admin —

The Year 12 ADV classes recently completed their overnight tramp to Tutere Lodge in the Orongorongo Valley.

Students in the two Year 12 Adventure classes were completing assessments on tramping skills and navigation.

Weather for both groups was less than ideal, but did provide a great incentive to walk a bit quicker to get to the hut before it got too cold.

The river crossings along the way seemed a bit unnecessary, especially after Jayden dropped the walkie talkie into the river.

The hut was outdoor luxury - gas cooktops provided, plates, pots and cutlery all waiting for us.

Within minutes Shylah had a roaring fire going and if anything the hut was a little too hot.

At night we witnessed the patience and precision of Teokura balancing the famous 7 rocks, the ferocity of Letitia while playing spoons, and the evil side of Keah’s mafia stories.

Day 2 was a bit longer, walking Cattle Ridge Track, apparently named due to the herd of buffalo up there. But the calling of the van, our own beds, and a shower made it seem much shorter.

Next up is a mountain biking trip. Hopefully the long drops are in better condition.
