Sea Kayakers Soak Up The Sounds

UHC Admin —

ADV301 students got to go on their final trip of the year to the picturesque Marlborough Sounds. Teacher Seth Weakley tells us what happened.

The Year 13 ADV class finally got to go on their sea kayak trip to the Marlborough Sounds. This trip had been rescheduled from Term 3 due to Covid. The class met early on Wednesday morning at the Ferry Terminal, and after some creative parking by Chaquia, managed to board the ferry for the trip to Picton.

After arriving in Picton, we quickly packed all our gear into kayaks and paddled off to Mistletoe Bay, unfortunately the strong head wind made it a challenging introduction to kayaking. The next few days were spent kayaking around the Queen Charlotte Sound.

Highlights of the trip include, Pati wearing sun block as war paint, seeing seals, dolphins, penguins, stingray and hundreds of jellyfish, Tray doing the most amazing back slap from a private jetty and catching fish from the kayak or jetty, gathering mussels for dinner.
