Matariki Week - Karakia & Cake

UHC Admin - June 22, 2022

UHC's student Wellbeing Committee has hosted Karakia and Cake in the library as part of Matariki Week celebrations. Student Elysia Shaw reports.

Ms. Cowley bought two big chocolate cakes that we decorated with sprinkles and stars and we cut it up into slices for everyone who attended to eat.

We had Mr. Beckett lead us in Karakia, which taught us about the importance of Matariki, and we had Mr. Awa sing us a song in Maori about Matariki, before we handed out the chocolate cake slices, and ate.

The chocolate cake was crumbly, but delicious and the icing was rich and chocolaty! Thank you to Ms. Cowley for providing us with chocolate cake, thank you to Mr. Beckett and Mr. Awa for providing us with Karakia and song before we ate, and thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate Matariki in the library!
