UHC girls take to the farm

UHC Admin —

Every year UHC has students attend a Farming Trades Academy Programme one day a week. This year the girls are getting stuck in. Careers Advisor Kerry Weston outlines their great work.

This year we have six Year 12 and 13 girls travelling over to the Wairarapa once a week, along with some girls from other schools, to experience life on a farm.

They are learning a range of farming skills from their tutor Victoria. So far this has included some fencing, drenching, dagging and sheep tipping!!

This programme is run by Primary ITO who are excited that, for the first time ever, they have a Trades Group that is all female and being run by a female tutor.

This programme is open to Year 12 and 13 students who are interested in a possible career in Farming in the future and is open to both males and females. To find out more talk to Mrs Weston, the Careers Advisor.
