Students run through the night at Relay for Life

UHC Admin —

At the end of last month a group of seniors took part in the Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event. Teacher Julie Sayers runs us through the successful event.

UHC students were organised by head students Lily Candy and JP Opperman and teacher Julie Sayers.

We were well supported by lots of other staff helpers during the event too, it was great to see our school community come together for this worthy cause.

This was the second time the event has been held at Trentham Racecourse and what an awesome event they organised for us. A fun time was had by all as the photos show!

We were entertained throughout the event with live music, Zumba to get the blood pumping, the movie Grease on the big screen at 2am, a silent disco and food trucks just to name a few.

While all that was going on a core crew of UHC running machines ran laps around the course to keep our baton moving. A sterling effort by all resulted in UHC coming fourth place for the most laps run by schools.

The object of the event was to raise money for the Cancer Society to help them continue all the awesome work they do in our community supporting people and their whanau through their cancer journeys.

UHC managed to raise a respectable $4897.74 at last count but there is still time to donate if you know a student who took part and want to contribute.

Congratulations to JP Opperman, Ella Raisin and Lara Wolff for being our top 3 fundraisers.

Plans are afoot to make UHC’s Relay for Life team bigger, brighter and faster next year - watch this space!
