Let’s talk about parent involvement as volunteers at UHC!

UHC Admin —

Tēnā koe

I’m Tania Jones, a Mum of a student at UHC. I was on the UHC Board 2019-2022, I volunteer to support the UHC Young Enterprise Scheme companies during their business year, and I support my son’s UHC football team during the winter season.

I’m doing my PhD at Victoria University of Wellington this year and the UHC Board and Principal are letting me use UHC as the focus school for my independent research. I am undertaking the research as a student, none of the UHC leaders, teachers or Board will have access to the study data. I will share my findings with the school community when I complete the project.

I am interested in the experiences of parents being involved, or not, in school activities and events as volunteers. As well as how you help around the school in other ways. Through my research I’m hoping to create a picture of what happens in school around volunteering and what parents feel around involvement as volunteers, and the relationship between the two. I’m not researching the students!

I think the way to find this out is by talking to lots and lots of UHC parents!

I’ll be around the school throughout 2023, at school events and activities, and anywhere else parents are helping. I’ll be noticing where people are and what they’re doing while helping, and taking lots of notes, but most of all I am keen to talk to you and hear your stories! Participation in the research is optional. If you agree to take part everyone’s experiences of involvement, or not, at UHC are valuable and I’m really keen to hear what you have to say. And if you can connect me up with other UHC parents that would be super helpful as well.

I’ll share more information about the project soon or click here for link to an information website or here for a private Facebook group which give full details of the project, what’s involved, how your identity and data will be protected, and how I will publish the results of the study.

If you are willing to participate and share your stories, get in touch with me through the contact details below, or come and have a chat when you see me at school or at a school event.

Please just ask if you have any questions at all, I'm more than happy to chat and take you through what I'm up to.

I’m looking forward to connecting with you and hearing your stories this year.

Ngā mihi,

Tania
