Market Day delivers
The Commerce Department's annual Market Day has been a raging success with many student businesses turning a profit. Teacher Scott Crookston reports.
Year 10 Commerce and Year 11 Business Studies students organised themselves into businesses to plan, resource and operate a food-based business activity for the Market Day.
A range of food was available from the tried and trusted to the more ambitious - sausages, hot savouries and chips, snow cones and milk shakes to cream buns, fry bread and sushi.
There were a lot of nerves amongst the students but as expected they rose to the challenge and excitement of the day.
For the Year 11 Business Studies students the Market Day was part of their 6-credit NCEA Level 1 assessment, which focuses on the planning, execution and review of a business activity.
The Year 10 Commerce students were introduced to the themes and skills required in senior Business Studies such the SMART goals, the marketing mix, break-even analysis and more.
A big thank you and well done to the students and to their whanau support.
