Te Kanawa House Take Out Olympics Of The Mind

UHC Admin —

Just before lockdown we held the annual house competition Olympics of the Mind.

In this competition students earn house points through team participation with a series of academic and general knowledge quizzes. This year the “Go Local”- Kiwiana round and the Brainteasers proved the difference between the teams. Let’s see how you would have gone with these taster questions:

  • Did any Woman sign the Treaty of Waitangi?

  • Which country was Sir Peter Blake in when he was shot and killed by pirates?

  • When was the law passed to allow Saturday shopping in NZ?

  • In Maori mythology who is the God of the Sea?

  • What does the kiwi have on the end of its bill that no other bird has there?

Although there was only 1 point between first and second placed senior teams at the end of two days of competition congratulations must go to TK Seniors - Dani, Keah and Teah and Jackson Juniors – Jia, Sofia and Melanie for their first placed rankings.

Overall house points for the competition were as follows:

1st = Te Kanawa

2nd = Jackson

3rd = Hillary

4th = Blake
