Year 12 Geography Students Field Trip to Ruapehu National Park

International Department —

The Year 12 Geography students spent three days at Mount Ruapehu National Park

The Geography students visited sites in the National Park to collect evidence of plants growing in the region. This evidence formed part of the NCEA Level 2 Assessment.  The students and staff spent three nights in a lodge close to Mount Ruapehu and Mount Ngauruhoe.

On the third day the students were up very early to spend the day walking the Tongariro Crossing.  Although the 19km trek proved difficult for some students, all 41 students successfully completed the crossing. The Tongariro Crossing is one of New Zealand's top hiking experiences and a highlight in the students school year.
