Action In Awhina

UHC Admin —

Students in our Awhina Unit have been enjoying a mix of waiata and karate recently as part of their curriculum.

Awhina students recently got together with a couple of staff members to perform a few waiata as part of Te Wiki o te reo Maori.

The ceremony started in front of Te Manawa Atea, with one of our karakia, then our class Pepeha, followed by Pokarekare Ana and Tutira Mai.

The Principal, Ms Taylor and her PA, Mrs Huaki-Feaver were part of our audience.

Later on in Term 4, Awhina students were given a karate lesson from Mrs Hall, our resident expert on staff.

Awhina students Alex , Damien, Maria and Cassius put together a summary of how the lesson went.

We learned how to block and Mrs Hall showed us some Karate moves. Daniel was told to grab her jacket and Mrs Hall crossed her fists and pushed his hands away to protect herself. Then Ms (Ali) Taylor grabbed Mrs Hall’s hand pretending to drag her away. Mrs Hall pushed her hand off. It is good to learn self-defence.
