Upper Hutt College’s mixed softball team claimed victory at the recent College Sport Wellington Regional Mixed Softball Championships, marking our return to the competition for the first time in recent years.
Our team, made up of students from Year 9 to Year 13, had an unforgettable run that saw them battle through tough opposition to secure the championship title.
The day began with an impressive 8-2 win over Naenae College, followed by a dominant 11-0 victory over Onslow College. These results set the stage for a thrilling final pool game against our fierce rivals, Heretaunga College.
In a tense and competitive match, our team showed incredible composure to secure a 6-1 victory and earn their place in the final.
The final was no easy feat, as we faced Mana College, who had dominated their pool and boasted some big names from the junior softball and baseball scenes. But the Upper Hutt College team stuck together, dug in, and fought hard throughout the game, coming away with a well-deserved 4-1 victory.
A massive thank you goes to Riko, our coach, for guiding the team to success, and to Talon for umpiring the games.
We would also like to extend our gratitude to all the parents and caregivers who came out to support the team.
This victory is more than just a championship win; it’s the beginning of something special for softball at Upper Hutt College. With this triumph, we hope to inspire future players and see the sport rise once again at UHC. Here's to more victories ahead!
