Welcome Back! Term 1, Day 1 šŸŽ’

Melanie Shaw —

We're ready to make this an incredible year..

Kia ora e te whānau,

Seeing so many smiling faces this morning was a lovely way to return to school. I hope you all had a refreshing break and were able to prioritise time with your loved ones.

While we all navigate the excitement and nerves of new classes, teachers, and friends, please know that our teachers are focused on settling their classes and building sound systems to support every student.

It was great to see so many at our open afternoon last week as well. We invited everyone to pop in, say hi to your child’s teacher, and check out the classes. We know this isn’t always easy, so please look at our communication information on the website. Emailing your child’s teacher is a great way to connect. Please note that responses are not immediate; teachers are with students and will respond within 24 hours. Urgent info needs to go to the office.

We have a Partnership hui planned for Monday, 9th and Thursday, 12th of February. Bookings can be made on Edge. You will receive an email this afternoon with more information on how to book.

School Property Updates

Our caretaker, Mr Baillie, has worked hard over the break in and around several property developments over the holidays. In addition, we have had carpets cleaned and pest control services performed. I want to thank our cleaning staff for completing their deep cleaning and for working hard over the break.

  • Outdoor Spaces: The Tōtara tree has been removed to create a safer, more functional space between Rooms 10/11 and 12/16. While the new turf may not be installed this week, the surface is fully functional.

  • Rākau Hub: We have addressed issues with flooring and heavy doors. Three doors were replaced with walls to reduce through-traffic, and we are looking forward to the improved bag storage for easier access. This is not yet in place.

  • Room 9: This space has received a long-awaited facelift and looks amazing.

  • Facilities: New electrical boards and heat pumps are being installed where needed across the school. Work is also underway on a new universal bathroom off Room 12.

Important Dates for Week 1

  • Thursday 5th February- School Pōwhiri: 9:30 am for all new students and teachers.

  • Friday 6th February- Waitangi Day: School is closed. We have a group performing at Orongomai Marae—a great place to connect on this significant day.

Daily Reminders

  • Hats: Term 1 is a "no hat, no play" term. Please ensure your child has a wide-brimmed or bucket hat.

  • Drink Bottles: While fountains are available, a clean bottle with fresh water in class helps keep students hydrated in the warm weather.

  • Labelling: Please label all your child's belongings to help us manage lost property.

Communication:

  • Check your Inbox: You should have received an email from your child’s teacher last Friday. If you didn’t, please contact the office to update your email address.

  • Weekly Updates: Check every Friday for the Hub update from your child’s teacher on learning and upcoming events.

  • School Newsletters come to your inbox fortnightly on even weeks. Look out for the first one on Friday, 13th February.

We are so excited to have the tamariki back with us. Please keep us updated on how we can support your child’s transition back to school.

Ngā mihi nui,

Steph Campbell
