To mark a special milestone the VMC Foundation is holding a glitzy event for a wonderful cause.

We are celebrating 20 years of the Villa Foundation. For those who don't know what the Foundation does, here is a brief introduction:

For more than 100 years, Villa Maria College has helped thousands of young women realise their potential.  One of the goals of the Villa Maria College Foundation is to ensure this tradition of excellence is maintained for the young women of tomorrow.

One of the primary deliveries of the Foundation is to financially support students who would not otherwise be able to attend Villa and receive a Mercy education. Most importantly, it’s that Mercy special character that drives our scholarship criteria.

Scholarships traditionally focus on the tangible – top mathematics students, science brains, the best artist, the fastest runner, the advanced musician. All worthy applications to enhance a young person’s opportunities. But what makes Villa Maria so special, always comes back to our special character.

The Mercy Scholarships are about helping to nurture, develop, grow and turn out into the world, women of special character. Women who will in turn, lead their worlds in the tenets of Catherine McAuley’s vision – respect for the dignity, worth and potential of every human being.

Mercy Scholarship students are selected via a criterion established with the Sisters of Mercy. They are students who show a natural aptitude for care, compassion, engagement and leadership. They are identified as being young girls who will thrive in a Mercy educational environment and develop into a Mercy mana wāhine.

Time and time again, and just so right now, the world shows us why it needs Mercy values. Our College produces outstanding women of value, embedded in our teachings is the importance of excellence, compassion, hospitality, respect, service and social justice. What could possibly be needed more!

The Mercy Scholarship is the manifestation of Villa Maria’s motto. Learn to Prize what is of Value. To mark our 20th year and safeguard these scholarships we are holding a very special event in June.
