The aim of Dance is to develop students’ ability to express experiences, ideas, beliefs, feelings, informed through dance.
Introduction
Dance is the study of expressive movement with intent, purpose, and form. The aim of Dance is to develop students’ ability to express experiences, ideas, beliefs, feelings, informed through dance. This is done by using a variety of choreographic structures, devices, and processes.
Content
As dancers, students learn, rehearse, and share dance works and perform them to a variety of audiences in formal and informal settings. Students will develop performance skills and reflect on and evaluate their own dance, this gives students opportunities to also view dance more widely.
Skills
Through studying Dance students will develop performance skills, engage in practical and theoretical investigations of dance, and explore the ritual, social, and artistic purposes of dance within global contexts. Studying Dance promotes personal and social well-being by developing students’ self-esteem, social interactions, and confidence in their own physical expression.
