NCEA External Examinations - important information

Andrea Craig —

Exams start on Monday 6 November.

Please click this link for the NCEA external examinations timetable: 2023 NCEA examinations

Morning examinations are at 9.30am and afternoon examinations are at 2.00pm.

Ākonga are required to be at school half an hour before their examination starts.

We are not able to allow ākonga into the examination hall after thirty minutes have passed so it’s very important that they arrive on time. This is especially the case with the digital examination where we will bring all students into the examination room 20 minutes prior to the examination starting.

Attendance

Attendance at examinations is compulsory. Students are expected to attend their external exams and to complete standards to the best of their abilities.

In some subjects, ākonga may choose which standard to complete during the exam, and some may choose not to sit all standards offered to them, however, all girls are expected to attend exams they are enrolled in.

If we are not aware of a reason for your daughter's non-attendance, you will be notified. If your daughter is unable to attend an examination due to sickness or injury please contact the school office that morning (before 9.00am for morning examinations) to let us know.

NCEA Admission Slips

Girls sitting NCEA examinations at the end of the year are required to have these with them for every external that they sit. These will be distributed after the Thanksgiving Mass. If a student forgets their admission slip, they will need to report to Ms Craig or the Bursar, Mrs Robinson for the College to print another slip. A $2 charge will be placed on your daughter’s account for this.

Derived Grades for NCEA

The Derived Grade process allows for students who have experienced significant medical or non-medical events that have clearly had an effect on the student during the examination or prevented the student from attending the examination to have this taken into account when externals are being assessed.

Such events may include significant conditions or events in the month prior to the start of the examination period that interfere with exam prep as well as temporary illness or trauma which occurs during the examinations. Please note that in all cases, where possible, students are encouraged to sit the examination and apply for a derived grade if they consider their performance was compromised.

If you feel that your daughter has had a significant disturbance to their learning and that this event has impacted their ability to complete the examinations please contact Ms Craig, Acting Principal’s Nominee, to request Derived Grade Forms via email aca@villa.school.nz

Results

Exam results are available online through NZQA mid January. The girls have been given log on information for this and they will set up a username and password themselves. We are keen to support any students who may not have quite met their goals at this point, so please do let me know if you have any queries or concerns when results are published.
