Introducing... Ciara Nystad

Ciara Nystad —

As part of our series introducing the Student Leadership Group for 2024, we profile Mercy Ambassador Ciara Nystad.

Tena Koutou Katoa,

My name is Ciara Nystad, and I have the privilege of being the 2024 Mercy Ambassador. I started my Villa Maria journey in 2020 as a Year 9 student. Over the past four and a bit years, Villa has allowed me to be involved in Bishop Lyons, production, Peer Support, Kai for the Community, Young Vinnies, masses, retreats and various service opportunities.

One special thing about Villa Maria is our school's Mercy values: Manaakitanga (hospitality), Whakaute (Respect), and Tika (justice). These encourage us to be more like Catherine McAuley in our everyday lives and is pivotal to who I am as a young Mercy Woman.

My main goal for 2024 is to establish a lasting connection with the Sisters of Mercy, Christchurch Mercy Primary Schools and Mercy High Schools across New Zealand.

Outside of school, I enjoy Irish Dancing and spending time with my family.

I look forward to increasing the Villa Spirit this year and seeing what we can accomplish as a Leadership Team and wider community. Some really fun and exciting events are coming up, which will definitely be something for all girls to look forward to.

Hoping to spread these Mercy values this year,

Nga Mihi
