This week we shine a light on Christina Symons and our swimmers.

Christina Symons

At the National Orienteering Championships in Canterbury over the school holidays, Christina won all three individual events (sprint, middle and long) in the W14 class. She then headed straight to the South Island Schools Championships where she won both of the events (sprint and long) in Junior Girls (Year 9). 👏

Swimmers

A group of girls from Villa competed at the NZ National Age Group Swimming Championships during the school holidays and recorded some fantastic results. Highlights included:

  • Bridie Quale - won five age group national titles - 50m, 100m, 200m Backstroke, 200m IM and 50m Breaststroke, Silver in the 200m Breaststroke and Bronze in the 100m Breaststroke.

  • Tandia Fisher - won age group national titles in the 200m and 400m Freestyle, silver medals in the 100m Fly and 100m Freestyle and Bronze in the 1500m Freestyle.

  • Lily Dunn - age group finalist coming 10th in the 50m Freestyle.

  • Bella Ealam-Smith - age group finalist coming 4th in the 50m Backstroke, 8th in the 100m Backstroke and 9th in the 200m Backstroke.

  • Taylor Ryder - age group Bronze in the 50m Breaststroke and 200m Breaststroke, 4th in the 100m Breaststroke.

  • Pippa Jory - age group finalist coming 4th in the 1500m Freestyle, 7th in the 800m Freestyle, 8th in the 400m Freestyle,  6th in the 200 Freestyle, with 100% Long Course personal bests!

Tandia and Lily also formed half of their Wharenui Club Relay team that won the 13-14yr Girls 4 x 100m Freestyle and 50m Freestyle Relay and placed 2nd in the 4 x 100m Medley Relay and 3rd in the 4 x 50m Relay – they also broke three Canterbury records along the way.

Bella formed part of her North Canterbury club relay team that placed 2nd in the 16&U 4 x 50m Medley Relay team and 3rd in the Mixed 4x50m Relay team.
